Employer default super fund

Most new employees will choose a super fund when they start their new job.

They will let you know where they want their super paid using the Choice of Fund form, or you will need to find their stapled super fund.

How default super funds work

You must have a nominated default super fund and pay your employee’s super into this fund if:

  • your employees do not choose a super fund and
  • do not have a stapled super fund (an existing super fund).

You can find out if your employee has a stapled super fund through ATO online services.

The default super fund you choose for your business needs to be MySuper authorised to comply with government regulations.

Nominate First Super your default fund

We’re a MySuper compliant fund with plenty to offer you and your employees.

  • We keep things local. We have Coordinators1 around Australia: they’re part of, and understand, your community. They can also come out to your workplace to help you and your employees face-to-face.
  • We’re just a call away. If you have any questions, you can contact our dedicated Employer Services team, local Coordinator or Business Development Manager. Employees can contact our Member Services team as well as our local Coordinators.
  • We take the hassle out of super by providing practical information, tools and tips that lighten the administrative load.
  • We keep you updated about superannuation changes. If new rules mean changes to your administration or payroll, we’ll be there to walk you through it. Our quarterly e-newsletter also keeps you updated with what’s happening in the industry and with the Fund.
  • Financial advice for members. Our local coordinators and financial planners2 can come out to your workplace, provide seminars and financial advice to your employees face-to-face.

We’re an award winning fund

We are big enough to perform, but don’t just take our word for it.

We have been chosen as Money magazine’s Best Balanced Super product for 20243, have a gold rating from SuperRatings, and a history of strong returns and competitive fees to help our members reach their retirement goals.

We’re small enough to care

We believe all Australians should have access to financial advice and education, regardless of the size of their super balance, so they can make informed decisions to maximise their retirement savings.

We do this through providing advice and education in simple and understandable ways. Members can access information via our website, attend workplace seminars, have face-to-face meetings with our coordinators and financial planners, or pick up the phone to talk to our Member Services team.

Our ‘Super’ and ‘Retirement Health checks’ with our financial planners are popular with members. These provide members with information they need to make decisions about their future and are covered by their admin fees, so they won’t be out of pocket.

For those who need or want comprehensive financial advice, we have a one-off flat fee. Read more about our financial advice options.
