February 4th, 2015

First Super has appointed a new Director – Julie George – to its Board today. She joins the Board as an employer representative director.

Julie George has had an extensive, 30 year career in the forest and wood products industry, and is the current Chair of the Forestworks Industry Skills Council.

Julie worked in the industry in Queensland for over 20 years and brings her background in governance and business administration, skills, education and training, and human resources management to the Board.

“Julie’s appointment will strengthen First Super. She brings to three the number of women now on our Board,” First Super CEO Bill Watson said today.

“Julie has extensive experience working in the training, management and governance aspects of our industries, including as Company Secretary of Australia’s biggest private timber employer, Hyne Timber.

“As a highly respected professional and educator in business administration, Julie’s experience will be of enormous benefit to the governance of the Fund.”

Julie has a strong background in training and education in the sector. She has served as a Board Member of the Wide Bay Institute of TAFE, Council Member and Deputy Chair of the Maryborough TAFE Council. She has been a member of the Government’s Training Agenda Roundtables, Chair of the Queensland, Forest Industry Training Advisory Board and member of the Industrial Relations & Training Advisory Committee of Timber Queensland.

Julie consults on governance and human resources to private companies and guest presenter for the Governance Institute of Australia.

Julie’s tertiary qualifications include a Masters of Business Management, a Graduate Diploma of Human Resources and a Diploma with the Australian Institute Company Directors. She is completing a Graduate Diploma of Applied Corporate Governance.

She replaces Lindsay Morling on the Board, who was a founding director of First Super having been a director of one of the three successor funds since 2001.

“We thank Lindsay for his many years of service to First Super,” Bill Watson said.
