What you need to know about ‘stapling’ rules

On 1 November 2021, ‘super stapling’ rules started as part of the Government’s Your Future, Your Super laws.

This is where the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) ‘staples’ (or links) existing super accounts to members, so your super automatically moves with you when you change jobs. The aim is to stop people picking up multiple super accounts and paying extra sets of fees.

The ATO decides your stapled account, so if you’re a member of more than one super fund, they might not link the account you want. To make sure you stay with First Super, we suggest you always use our Choice of Fund form.

Why should you stay with First Super?

First Super is an Industry SuperFund which means our profits are returned to you, not shareholders. We pride ourselves on being large enough to perform, small enough to care. This means we offer strong long-term investment returns1 and competitive fees plus excellent service – over the phone, online and face-to-face. It’s why over 72,000 Australians trust us with their retirement savings.

We’re here to help. So let’s talk.

If you are not sure whether you are eligible to choose your super fund, or if you have any other questions, please call our Member Services Team on 1300 360 988, or email us.
