First Super is the industry super fund for workers in the timber, pulp & paper and furniture & joinery industries. As an industry super fund, First Super:

• Is run only to benefit Members

• Offers low fees including no entry fees

• Does not pay commissions to financial advisers

• Is open to all Australians.

First Super was formed on 1 July 2008 after three industry super funds came together: The Furniture Industry Retirement Superannuation Trust (FIRST), the Pulp & Paper Workers’ Superannuation Fund (PPWSF) and the Timber Industry Super Scheme (TISS).

We’re proud of our industry heritage which means we design products and services to meet the needs of employees in the timber, pulp & paper and furniture & joinery industries, and we support and invest in the communities in which they work and live.

As at 30 June 2012, First Super had over 72,000 members and almost $1.7 billion in members’ funds. We use our size and strength to negotiate low investment management fees and all profits are returned to members, not shareholders.

Our Management

First Super is managed by a Trustee, First Super Pty Ltd (ABN 42 053 498 472). The Trustee is responsible for ensuring First Super is managed in accordance with the trust deed and the relevant law. The Trustee holds professional indemnity insurance.

There are eleven Directors on the Trustee Board. The Trustee Board is currently made up of five Directors nominated by the CFMEU (Forestry and Furnishing Products Division), five nominated by employer associations and employers and one Independent Director. Directors are appointed by the Board after considering the qualifications and suitability of nominees.

All Directors are obliged by law to act in the best interests of all members of First Super.
